Why should I do if my Sims just stand around doing nothing?

Sims-stand-around-doing-nothing

Your Sims may sometimes just stand around and do nothing, even though there’s a whole list of commands in their action queue. This issue occurs with and without mods and oftentimes is a consequence of lag.

The weirdest part is that your Sim’s needs continue to decay despite them standing still.

Let’s see what you can do about this annoying glitch.

What to do if your Sims just stand around

Navigate through the menu

Go to Game Options, and click on a random option but don’t change anything. You can also pause the game and go to Build Mode.

Wait a few seconds, go back to your gameplay, and check if your Sims are still standing around.

Travel to a different lot or world

If your Sims still won’t move, have them travel to a different lot or world. Spend a couple of minutes there, go back to their household and check if you notice any changes.

Try playing in offline mode and see if that helps. Go back online, and check the results.

By the way, if you’re getting error code 107 when you instruct your Sims to travel to a different place, disable your mods, and update your game.

Leave the game on pause

Leave The Sims 4 on pause for 5 minutes to let the lag catch up. Don’t navigate through the menu, don’t do anything.

Playing on high speed can sometimes trigger major lag issues. When that happens, Sims will take an awful to do what they’re told.

The lag is often very bad when your Sims are about to change emotions.

Reset your Sims

If nothing works, try resetting your Sims. Press Ctrl, Shift, and C and type in testingcheats true to enable cheat codes. Then, type in resetSim Firstname Lastname and press Enter.

For example, if your Sim’s name is John Doe, you need to type in resetSim John Doe and then hit Enter.

Get rid of inventory items

If your Sims have a plethora of items in their inventories, remove some of them and check if you notice any improvements.

Simmers noticed that having many items in the inventory can sometimes trigger unexpected glitches.

Lower your graphics settings

Lower your graphics settings, enable windowed mode, and check if you notice any changes.

Navigate to your Origin game library and right-click on The Sims 4. Select Game Properties and click on Advanced Launch options.

Then, select the 32-bit setting under the option that reads “When launching this game“.

Clear the cache and repair your game

Navigate to Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4. Remove the localthumbscache.package file to clear your cache.

Then, go to your Origin Library, right-click on The Sims 4, and select Repair Game.

Wait until your game client repairs your game files, restart The Sims 4, and check the results.

Hope something helps!
