EA has introduced a new Sims 4 update system called Sims Delivery Express or SDX. The new update system is available on PC, Mac, PlayStation and Xbox. The devs can use SDX to roll out new content items such as build items, buy assets, décor items, and other cosmetic elements and minor fixes in bite-sized updates.
For example, the Sims 4 devs can use SDX to push out new Build Mode items, or a new Create A Sim asset. They can also roll out hotfixes for minor bugs. In other words, the SDX system is perfect for rolling out simple game content updates and fixes. Think of it as a sister companion to the Base Game Updates.
The new system allows devs to push out minor updates more frequently. At the same time, these bite-sized updates should improve the game’s stability. It’s not uncommon for the latest Sims 4 updates to cause various mod or CC-related glitches and errors. In theory, SDX updates shouldn’t break Mods or CC content.
How to install Sims Delivery Express updates
The Sims 4 automatically checks for SDX updates the moment you launch it. You don’t need to do anything else, simply launch The Sims 4 and the game will take care of everything. Restart The Sims 4 after installing the latest SDX updates.
SDX content is free for all Sims 4 players.
What Sims Delivery Express won’t cover
The SDX system supports only small game content updates and hotfixes for minor bugs. It does not cover:
- Major bug fixes
- Major Sims 4 updates such as a new expansion packs
- Changes to the User Interface.
If you’re playing The Sims 4 on a gaming console, you need to link your Xbox or PlayStation account to an EA account to install SDX updates.
Sims Delivery Express rolls out cumulative updates
Previous SDX updates are included in future game updates, except limited content. Sims Delivery Express bundles multiple updates, both new and previously released updates.
If your forget to install specific SDX updates, you’ll get them with the next update.
EA to push smaller Sims 4 updates faster
The new SDX system is about getting smaller content out faster.
Ever since The Sims 4 was launched, EA has used an update system where even minor updates had to be bundled in with the month’s patch. The downside is that even if minor updates are ready go to live, players won’t get them if the monthly patch is delayed.
Basically, with the new SDX system, EA can roll out small content updates at any point. It’s still unknown if SDX will handle paid content in the future.
