Why is The Sims 4 adjusting graphics settings on its own?

You can manually adjust the graphics settings of The Sims 4 to improve the overall visual quality of the game. Your graphics settings determine the level of detail in the game.

They allow you to customize the game’s appearance to your preferences.

Well, The Sims 4 may suddenly decide to adjust your graphics settings on its own.

When that happens, you’ll get a message that reads: We’re adjusting your graphics settings, so you can continue to enjoy playing The Sims 4.

A few minutes into gameplay, you may get this message and notice the graphics change. Sometimes, it’s very noticeable. Other times, it’s only a slight change.

But the most annoying part is that these changes are made without Simmers’ consent. You don’t have the option to adjust the settings yourself or stop the process.

The game just informs you your graphics settings are about to be changed and that’s it.

Some Simmers said they feel the game is literally hijacking their settings.

This just happened to me on PS4. I was in the middle of using the seance table, leveling up my Medium Skill. Where does the game get off adjusting my settings on my behalf and without warning or consent? I know how settings work and I don’t need to be treated like a child. I don’t want the game hijacking my settings. If I want to sacrifice a bit of performance for better visuals, or vice versa, that’s my prerogative as the player.

This graphics optimization feature may kick in on all platforms.

I, for one, am playing The Sims 4 on my Mac and Windows computer and I got this message on both platforms. Although, I noticed The Sims 4 tends to adjust my graphics settings more frequently on my Windows computer than on my Mac.

Here’s my two cents: I think this is a Sims 4 built-in feature. It seems its purpose is to adjust your graphics settings so as to improve the game performance on your system configuration.

I’m not sure it’s really unnecessary and I don’t see the advantage for the player.

If you’re running The Sims 4 on a low-spec computer, you should be the one to decide if you want to sacrifice graphics quality for performance.

Unfortunately, EA remains tight-lipped on this matter. But I’ll update this post as soon as new information is available.

Have been experiencing the “Adjusting your graphics settings” screen too? Let me know in the comments below.
