Why does my toilet keep catching on fire in Sims 4?

Sims-4-toilet-catches-on-fire

Toilets can sometimes catch on fire unexpectedly in The Sims 4. The problem is that Sims can get engulfed in flames if the toilet catches on fire when they’re using it. If you fail to put out the fire quickly, the Grim Reaper will pay you a quick visit.

Let’s explore why toilets may randomly catch on fire in The Sims 4 and how to prevent these dangerous events.

Why do toilets catch on fire in Sims 4?

If you have the Eco-Lifestyle pack and you do the compost toilet upgrade, your toilet will catch on fire from time to time to burn the compost. The fire doesn’t last long and should die before your Sim even notices it.

According to the description of the compost upgrade, your toilet will catch on fire if you don’t have any insects to feed the compost to.

If you use this upgrade option, make sure to create a bug farm. You can then feed the compost to the bugs.

Bugs and insects will degrade the compost and your toilet will catch on fire less frequently.

Without a bug farm, your Sims can’t empty their compost toilets. As a result, methane builds up, and the toilet bursts into flames. Compost is made of organic material which is combustible.

It seems that the Old Time Antique Toilet catches on fire more frequently than other toilet models. Make sure to empty it on a regular basis.

When upgrading your toilets, don’t select the Instant Upgrade option. If you’re not planning on building a bug farm, don’t select the compost upgrade to prevent your toilets from randomly catching on fire.

What else could be setting my toilet on fire in Sims 4?

If you’re not using the Compost upgrade and your toilet still catches on fire, check if you have the Gremlins lot trait. Then, check if one of your Sims has a childish trait or  Mischief aspiration.

Goofy Sims will autonomously prank the toilet even if they’re using it themselves. That’s why you may sometimes see purple smoke coming out of the toilet.

What do I do if the toilet catches on fire while my Sim is using it?

If your toilet catches on fire while your Sim is using it, immediately jump into the shower to extinguish the flames. Always place the shower next to the toilet.

You need to put out the fire fast. If you fail to do that, your Sim will die.

Additionally, replace the problematic toilet. Try using a different toilet model and check if you notice any improvements.

Conclusion

Toilets that randomly catch on fire can potentially kill your Sims. Toilets may catch on fire if you’re using the Compost Upgrade but don’t have an Insect farm to feed the compost to the bugs.

If your toilet catches on fire while your Sim is using it, the flames will engulf in them instantly. Put out the fire as quickly as possible to save your Sim.
