To turn a mermaid into a normal in The Sims 4, have them eat two pieces of Mermaid Kelp and then enter a body of water. Alternatively, you can use the traits.remove_trait trait_OccultMermaid cheat code to remove the Mermaid trait.
You can switch back to being a mermaid whenever you want. Simply eat another piece of Mermaid Kelp, take a quick swim in the ocean and you’ll turn into a mermaid once more.
How to get Mermaid Kelp
The quickest way to get Mermaid Kelp is to buy it with 500 Satisfaction Points. Alternatively, you can also dive into the ocean and search for lost treasures. If you’re lucky, you’ll fish out Mermaid Kelp.
You can also explore the cave from the Island of Mua Pel’Am.
Make sure to eat the two pieces of Mermaid Kelp within 4 hours of each other. After consuming Kelp, you have 24 hours to enter a body of water and turn into a mermaid.
The Mermaid Kelp effect will disappear on its own after 24 hours.

How to use cheats to remove the Mermaid trait
If you want to use shortcuts, open the Cheats Console:
- Press L1, L2, R1, and R2 on your Playstation console.
- If you’re playing The Sims 4 on Xbox, press LB, RB, LT, and RT
- On PC and Mac, press CTRL, Shift, and C at the same time
Then, type testingcheats true and use the traits.remove_trait trait_OccultMermaid cheat code to turn your mermaid back to a normal Sim.
There is no notification that your mermaid is a normal Sim again. However, their Hydration needs should be replaced with Hygiene needs.
