Sims 4 Raining Indoors? Here’s What’s Causing It

Sims 4 raining inside

If rain is pouring inside your Sim’s home, it’s not just your game acting up—you’re dealing with a known Sims 4 bug.

When Did This Bug Start?

The indoor rain bug began after the Life and Death update. Players who haven’t updated past that patch probably won’t see this bug.

What Happens With This Bug?

Most players see rain falling inside their houses through ceilings and roofs. It’s mostly just a visual thing—there are no puddles forming on the floors.

However, due to this bug, Sims can do outdoor-only actions inside the house, like:

  • Cloudgazing
  • Watching the night sky
  • Going for a jog or hike
  • Burning or freezing to death

This clearly shows the game’s weather system gets mixed up on what counts as indoors.

For most players, this glitch doesn’t damage electronics. Sims don’t react to the rain or snow either. They act like everything is normal, even while clouds are pouring inside.

When the Bug Causes Real Problems

For some players, the rain inside actually causes issues. For example, electronics might get damaged as if they were outside. But these are very rare cases.

This usually means something is wrong with the walls, ceiling, or room setup. Double-check that all roofs are properly covering the rooms. Missing roof tiles or open walls can confuse the game into thinking indoor spaces are outside.

How to Fix or Work Around the Indoor Rain

Turn Off Weather Effects

The easiest way to stop indoor rain is to disable all weather effects. Go into Environment options and turn off rain, thunderstorms, snow, and snowstorms. Not ideal, but it stops the rain from ruining your indoor scenes.

Replace Ladders With Stairs

If your build uses ladders to reach rooftop terraces, that could cause rain leaks inside rooms below. Some players fixed the problem by swapping ladders for regular stairs.

What’s EA Doing About It?

EA has been “investigating” this bug for over six months now. Players are frustrated because there hasn’t been any clear update or progress shared.

Even if the fix takes a while, EA sharing patch notes or updates about the bug’s status would help keep the community informed instead of leaving players in the dark.

If your Sim’s house is suddenly a rainstorm zone, this bug explains it. Hopefully, a proper fix comes soon, but until then, these tips can help keep your indoor weather under control.
