Fix-Sims-4-shortcuts-not-working

If you want to quickly zoom in or change the camera angle in The Sims 4, you can use special keyboard shortcuts to get the job done. Unfortunately, the game may sometimes stop responding to keyboard input.

Follow the troubleshooting steps below to solve the problem.

How to fix keyboard shortcuts not working in The Sims 4

To fix the issue where keyboard shortcuts won’t work in The Sims 4, check your keyboard layout settings, and ensure your keyboard is working properly. Then, repair the game, check for updates, disable mods, and restart your computer.

Check your keyboard

Make sure your keyboard is working properly. Check if it works with other programs.

If you have a spare keyboard at hand, pair it with your computer and check if the game responds to keyboard input.

If the problem is gone when using a different keyboard, this indicates your keyboard is faulty. Have it repaired or buy a new one.

Check your keyboard layout settings

Make sure you’re using the correct keyboard layout settings. You may have accidentally changed your keyboard settings when building. If you press Shift and Alt, your keyboard settings will change automatically.

Press Shift and Alt again and select your original keyboard layout. That’s the keyboard layout you set on Windows

Alternatively, you can click on your keyboard language icon on the taskbar and select ENG as your default keyboard layout.

Repair The Sims 4

Corrupted game files may cause a plethora of glitches, including keyboard issues. Try repairing your game files, and check if you notice any changes.

Launch Origin, go to your Game Library, select The Sims 4, and then click on the Repair option.

Wait until Origin scans and repairs your game files. Then, exit the game client and restart your computer.

Launch The Sims 4 again, and check if your keyboard shortcuts are working properly now.

Check for updates

Make sure you’re running the latest Sims 4 version on your computer. EA regularly rolls out new updates to add new game features and patch existing bugs.

If Origin says that a new Sims Delivery Express update has arrived, install it, restart the game client, and check if you notice any changes.

Disable mods

Outdated mods and CC files may sometimes break certain game functionalities. The quickest way to test if mods are indeed breaking keyboard shortcuts in The Sims 4 is to remove them.

Move your Mods folder to your desktop. Then, delete the game cache and the localthumbcache.package file from the Sims 4 folder. Restart the game, start a new save, and check if you can use keyboard shortcuts to play The Sims 4.
