There are two ways to change an NPC’s appearance in The Sims 4: with cheats or without cheats. Here’s a breakdown of the steps to follow depending on the approach you want to take.
How Do You Change an NPC’s Appearance in The Sims 4?
Use the Modify in CAS Cheat
Before you start, make sure cheats are enabled. Press Ctrl + Shift + C on your keyboard to bring up the cheat console.
In the text box that appears at the top of the screen, type in testingcheats true and hit Enter.
While in the game, locate the NPC you want to edit. Hold down the Shift key on your keyboard and click on the NPC.
This will open up a context menu with various cheat options.
From the context menu, select the Modify in CAS option.
You can now freely edit their appearance, including changing their outfits, hairstyles, makeup, and more.
Exit CAS when you’re done.
You can use this method to edit the appearance of any Sims, not just NPCs.
Add the NPC to Your Family
One of the simplest ways to edit an NPC’s appearance in The Sims 4 is to add them to your family. Then, use the sims.modify_career_outfit_in_cas cheat with your NPC selected.
You can edit their work outfit, save, and then remove them from your family.
However, there’s a drawback to using this method.
Once an NPC is added to your family, they’ll lose their NPC status and job. The game generates a new NPC to replace them.
How Do You Change an NPC’s Appearance Without Using Cheats?
Use the method below to change an NPC’s appearance without NPCs using their status.
Go to Manage Worlds. Look for the household of the NPC you want to change under the Unplayed Families tab. Click on their house.
Inside the household, you’ll see a little pencil icon. Click on it to start editing the family and give them a makeover.
You can now tweak the NPC’s appearance however you like. Change their clothes, hairstyles, accessories, and whatever else you want to adjust.
After you’re done making changes, don’t forget to save your progress.
Once you’re satisfied with the changes, close out of the editing screen and go back to the neighborhood view.
Head over to the Played Households tab. Find the household of the NPC you just edited.
In the Played Households tab, you’ll notice a little heart icon next to the household. This heart means they’re a played household.
Click on the heart to unclick it, which will turn the heart gray. This makes the family go back to being NPCs.
Use the Hair and Makeup Salon Chair [Get Famous]
You can use a salon chair from the Get Famous expansion pack and do a makeover on NPCs. You can change their appearance, and they will pay you for it.
And that’s it!
You’ve successfully changed an NPC’s appearance without using any cheats.
Remember, just have fun with it and experiment until you’re happy with the new look.
Enjoy your time in the game!
