How to Recover Lost or Deleted Minecraft Worlds

Building Minecraft worlds takes time. You need to invest many hours into the process, sometimes even hundreds of hours, in order to be satisfied with the end result. That’s why realizing you just lost your Minecraft world is really frustrating.

Oftentimes, this happens by accident. You’re not really paying attention to what you’re deleting.

Other times, you may lose your Microsoft worlds due to game glitches, power outages, software conflicts, PC crashes, and more.

If you want to recover lost or deleted Minecraft worlds, follow the steps available in this guide. You’ll find solutions for Windows 10, Android, and iOS.

Solutions to Restore Lost or Deleted Minecraft Worlds on Windows 10

Method 1

All your Minecraft worlds are saved on your hard drive. The catch is that they’re stored in a hidden folder in separate subfolders. So, in order to access the game saves, you need to first access the hidden Minecraft folder.

  • Step 1 – Go to Windows Start, type %appdata% and hit Enter
  • Step 2 – Navigate to \roaming.minecraft\saves. Here you’ll find the folders where the game saved your worlds. Each world has its own individual folder.
  • Step 3 – Open the Minecraft world folder you want to restore
  • Step 4 – Right-click on an empty area and select Properties
  • Step 5 – Select the Previous version tab to list all the Minecraft world folders that got deleted
  • Step 6 – Select the folder you’re interested in and click Restore to recover it.
  • Step 7 – Launch Minecraft, click on the menu and the world you just restored should be visible there.

Method 2

  • Step 1 – Launch Minecraft, create a new world, save it and close the game
  • Step 2 – Open File Explorer and navigate to (C:)/Users/User/AppData/Local/Packages/Microsoft.MinecraftUWP_8wekyb3d8bbwe/LocalState/games/com.mojang/minecraftWorlds
  • Step 3 – You should now be able to see all the world folders stored in Minecraft Worlds
  • Step 4 – Open the new world folder you just created earlier, and open the db folder
  • Step 5 – Delete all the files and folders stored in the folder but not the db folder itself
  • Step 6 – Open your lost world folder, open the db folder, copy everything in the db folder
  • Step 7 -Navigate to your new world folder, and paste the contents of the old db folder into the new db folder
  • Step 8 -Launch Minecraft, go to Worlds, open the new world and and you should be able to access your old world. Basically, your new world becomes your old world.

How to Recover Lost Minecraft Worlds on Android

If you have a backup of the world, go ahead and restore it. The backup folder is available in your normal world selection. Simply select the backup of the world you lost and you’ll be able to bring it back.

Unfortunately, if you did not create a backup copy, then that world is gone forever and there’s no way to restore it.

How to Recover Lost Minecraft Worlds on iOS

On iOS, Minecraft can back up your worlds via iCloud or iTunes.

Method 1 – Recover the world from iCloud

  1. Go to Settings → iCloud  Storage and Backup
  2. Select the backup you want to restore and wait until your iPhone has restored the world.

Method 2 – Recover the lost world from iTunes

  1. Connect your iOS device to the computer, and launch iTunes
  2. Select your devices, go to Apps and then to Apps in the list below can share documents between the iPhone and the computer
  3. Select Minecraft PE and click on the Games folder (to the right side)
  4. Scroll down and select Save to
  5. While restoring the data, click Add
  6. Restart Minecraft and check if your lost world has successfully been restored.

  1. When I went to iCloud I could not find storage and backup it just says iCloud back up which shows me my iCloud storage I’m confused????
