How to manually update your PS5 controller

manually-update-PS5-controller

Whenever there’s a new update available for your PS5 controller, your console will pop an alert on the screen prompting you to install the updates. But what happens if you accidentally exit out of the notification?

Well, if you missed your PS5 controller update notification, wait 24 hours and it should pop up again.

Another solution is to manually search for the latest updates. If you haven’t used this method before, follow the steps below to get the job done.

How do I manually update my PS5 controller?

If you want to manually update your PS5 controller, you need to trick the console into thinking the day has passed. In other words, you need to edit your date and time settings and set up tomorrow’s date.

This will force the system to pop up that update reminder that usually appears on the screen 24 hours after you missed or closed the update notification.

Steps to manually update PS5 controllers

Step 1 – Disable your Internet connection

  • Navigate to Settings → Network→ Settings → Connect to internet → switch off the option.

Step 2 – Edit your date and time settings

  • Go to Settings → System →Date and Time → Set Manually.
  • Manually change the day and select tomorrow’s date → hit OK.

Step 3 – Remove your controller from Settings

  • Navigate to Settings → Accessories → General → Bluetooth Accessories → Select your controller → Delete.

Step 4 –  Turn off your PS5 console

  • Hold down the Power button until the console shuts off.

Step 5 – Connect your controller to your console using a cable

  • Use the cable that came in the package and plug your controller to your PS5 console.

Step 6 – Power up your console

  • Press the Power button on your console to boot it up.
  • Then press the PS button on the controller to pair it to your console.
  • After a few seconds, the prompt to update your controller should pop up again.

You can then connect your console to the Internet. This should automatically set your date and time settings back to normal.

However, if the console fails to set the correct date and time, go to Settings, and edit your date and time settings again.

How to manually update multiple PS5 controllers

If you need to update two or more controllers, follow the steps above, and turn off the first controller after updating it. Then switch to the other controller and the console should automatically prompt you to update it as well.

⇒ Quick Tip:

When your PS5 controller is fully charged, you’ll see three bars on the battery icon status and the battery icon will stop animating.

Happy gaming!
