The birthday candles are key elements when it comes to aging up your Sims. The birthday cake alone cannot move your Sim into a new life stage.

Can’t Add Candles to Cake in The Sims 4
Fix 1 – Use the bring out cake interaction
This solution applies only to those of you who have the Dine Out pack. To add candles to your cake, use the Bring out cake interaction. This should fix the problem and the issue of adding candles to cakes should now be history.
Fix 2 – Move the cake
First, make sure the cake in on the center of the table. There should be no other items on the table. Take it out of the refrigerator inventory and place it on a different counter. Check if all the options are there.
Keep in mind that not all the tables accept this feature. If you put the cake on a low table, the option to add the candles won’t be available.
Also, it seems that the position of the cake varies depending on the type of counter it’s on. Gamers noticed that the cakes placed on counters attached to the wall had to be in the center for the candle option to appear.
On the other hand, if you place the cake on an island counter, try placing it on the edge to add the birthday candles.
Fix 3 – Have your Sim travel to another lot
If you still can’t add the birthday candles on your cake, try having your Sim travel to another lot. Spend two minutes there and then bring them back again. Check if the candle option re-appeared.
Alternatively, if the issue persists, try repairing your game by going to Origin’s game library and right-clicking on The Sims 4 icon. Select the Repair option and wait for the tool to repair the game.
