There’s an annoying mirror reflection bug that’s been plaguing Sims 4 players for years. More specifically, mirror reflection is backwards. Mirrors reflect the things behind them, instead of reflecting what is in front of them. In other words, they behave more like windows.
This glitch primarily affects computers equipped with Radeon RX 6000 Series graphics cards.
Here’s what you can do about this annoying glitch.
Use DXVK
To fix the mirror reflection bug in Sims 4, install DXVK. You can download DXVK from GitHub. Get the .rar file, and unpack only the wined3d.dll and d3d9.dll files into the C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\TheSims4\Game\Bin folder.
This tool was primarily created to enable Windows games to run on non-Windows platforms. Many Sims 4 players confirmed that DXVK fixed the mirror reflection bug in the game.
However, DXVK doesn’t work with The Sims 3. This is because DXVK is written for 64x games, and The Sims 3 is a 32x-based game.
As a downside, you need to reboot your computer after closing Sims 4 to reset the graphics card contrast.
Get rid of mirrors
It seems that the mirror reflection problem is at a driver level with reflecting surfaces in general. This bug effects previous Sims titles as well. Install the latest GPU drivers and wait until AMD fixes the problem on their end.
Meanwhile, you can remove all the mirrors from your Sim’s house. Or you can simply ignore the problem.
However, for some players, removing all the mirrors is not an option. If you want to level up your Sim’s Charisma skills, you need to have them practice speech in a mirror.
Compatibility issues between Radeon RX 6000 and Sims 4
Sims 4 players also contacted AMD Support about this issue. AMD customer support claimed The Sims 4 is not supported on the Radeon RX 5000 and 6000 Series GPUs.
I’ve recently had emails from AMD customer support claiming that The Sims 4 is not supported by AMD 5000 & 6000 series GPUs. I feel like this is a massive mistake and that EA needs to contact AMD. Why AMD would not support The Sims 4, one of EA’s biggest selling games with their newest GPUs is beyond me. At this point, I feel the community should be warned NOT to upgrade to a new AMD GPU until they officially support them and this will require somebody at EA or Maxis to reach out to AMD.
EA is aware of this glitch as well. Let’s hope AMD and EA release a permanent fix for this bug soon.
Did you manage to fix the mirror reflection glitch in Sims 4 after installing DXVK? Let me know in the comments below.
Thank you… In my case it was enough to install in the Bin directory the d3d9.dll that comes in the dxvk-1.10.1 tar file
Glad to hear you solved the problem.
Copying just the d3d9.dll does fix the mirror issue – but I have started noticing a major increase in lag, so you need to decide if the mirror issue is “really” that important. I was also playing with a large family and a large lot so maybe it’s fine for smaller scenarios. Personally I care more about the lag than mirrors reflecting correctly.
Thank you for your feedback!
it doesn’t fix it for me, I don’t have the game/bin files in my laptop.. it just shows EA – Sims 4.. then it shows the mod etc folders so idk what to do
