Error code CE 100006-7 indicates your PS5 console did not recognize your external storage drive. It usually occurs when you’re trying to install a new game on your console, especially if you’re trying to install a PS4 game on a PS5 console.

Troubleshooting PS5 Error CE 100006-7

Update your system software

If you’re not running the latest PS5 system software version, check for updates. If there’s a new version available, install it on your console and check if the error persists.

For more information on what’s new in the latest PS5 system software version, visit the PlayStation5 system software update website.

Unplug your external storage device

Additionally, unplug the external storage drive from your console. Simply disconnect the USB cable. Restart the console and then plug in the cable  to connect the external storage device to the console.

By the way, if you’re using a USB hub, disconnect your storage drive from the hub. Then connect it directly to your PS5 console’s USB port.

Transfer data individually

Another way to fix error code CE 100006-7 is to transfer content individually. If this error occurred when you tried to transfer all your game data at one, change the strategy. Instead, try to transfer the content individually and check if that works.

Check your storage device

Ensure the device is not faulty. One way to check is that to test with a different external storage drive. If the error is gone, this indicates there could be something wrong with your storage device. Format it or replace it with a different device.

Format your drive

If this is the first time you’re using your storage device as extended storage, you need to format it.

  1. Connect your USB device to your console’s USB port located on the back.
  2. Go to Settings, and select Storage.
  3. Then go to Extended Storage.
  4. Select Format as extended storage.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process and format the device.

Check if your game supports extended storage

Another important thing to note is that not all the games out there support extended storage. Some are not compatible with this storage technology. Or contact the game developers directly and ask them to confirm if the game you’re trying to install or play supports extended storage.
