Final Fantasy 7 Remake is an awesome game with a large player base that’s growing by each day. This action role-playing game will definitely bring back many pleasant memories, especially if you already played the first version of the game released back in 1997.
But there’s one tiny issue that’s been bugging quite a lot of gamers: sometimes, summoning is not working in Final Fantasy 7 Remake.
What is summoning anyway?
Summoning is a key mechanic to all the games of the Final Fantasy series. Summons are tightly connected to Red Summon Materia in Final Fantasy 7 Remake. Basically, this gives you the opportunity to summon a powerful spirit to help you defeat the bosses.
Obviously, if you can’t summon the powerful spirits to fight alongside your hero, this can turn into a major disadvantage in battles. You need to fix this problem as soon as possible.
Why can’t I summon in Final Fantasy 7 Remake?
If summoning is not available, make sure you already earned the Summon Materia you want to use. Players can access the first Summon Materia from the beginning of the game.
If you want some extra Red Summon Materia, you need to earn it through Chadley’s Battle Intel Reports. Some types of rare Summon Materia can only be gained through DLCs.
Fix summoning not working in Final Fantasy 7 Remake
Fix 1 – Make sure the battle area is large enough
Keep in mind that if you can’t use certain summons, this might be because the big summons are only available during certain boss and elite enemy fights where there is enough space for the powerful spirits to act. If the fight area is too small, the powerful spirit won’t show up.
As Final Fantasy VII Remake’s producer Yoshinori Kitase confirmed on Twitter:
Players equip summoning materia, and that materia resonates when fighting bosses, or certain powerful enemies, when certain conditions are met. Summons give you a chance to perform some extremely powerful attacks, and fight with a potent ally when taking on tough bosses.
There are 9 Summon Materia types in Final Fantasy 7 Remake:
- Ifrit
- Chocobo & Moogle
- Shiva
- Fat Chocobo
- Leviathan
- Bahamut Megaflare
- Chocobo Chick
- Carbunkle
- Cactaur
Chocochick, Cactuar, and Carbuncle can participate in smaller battles because they can fit in smaller areas. However, other creatures such as those that can be accessed through DLCs can only engage in large battles.
Fix 2 – Make sure the summons don’t override
Also, avoid overriding the summons. Sometimes, the smaller summons might override the big ones. To avoid that, equip only one creature at a time.
⇒ Quick Tip:
- Give Auto-Cure to an NPC so they can heal you and your allies if your Health gets in the red during battle. The Auto-Cure spell can only be cast when your HP is in the red
Fix 3 – Free up some space on your console
Did you know that Final Fantasy VII Remake takes 100 GB to install? To avoid any game glitches triggered by low storage space, make sure you’ve got at least 25 GB of free space left after installing the game.
To free up some space on your PS4, delete gameplay videos, old games you haven’t played in a long time, and unnecessary files.
That’s pretty much all you can do to troubleshoot summoning problems in Final Fantasy 7 Remake.
