fix Error Initializing Session Manager

If you’re getting the Error Initializing Session Manager when trying to access the multiplayer versions of your favorite PS4 games, follow the troubleshooting methods listed in this guide to fix it.

Interestingly enough, this error occurs more frequently on Uncharted 4 than on other titles.

How can I fix Session Manager initialization errors on PS4?

Fix 1 – Check your firewall and proxy settings

The most common root cause for this issue is your firewall and proxy settings. More specifically, your firewall or proxy is preventing you from connecting to ports 6400-6429.

Disable your firewall, as well as your proxy, and check if you can now join multiplayer games on your console.

Fix 2 – Give your console a new IP

If you’re using a static IP, try getting a new IP address for your console.

  • Step 1 – Go to Network settings
  • Step 2 – Select Set Up Internet Connection
  • Step 3 – Choose Use LAN Cable > Easy or Use Wi-Fi > Easy depending on your connection type
  • Step 4 – Go to IP Address Settings and select Automatic. You can also select Manual if you want to enter the new IP manually.
  • Step 5 – Manually enter your IP address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway, Primary DNS, and Secondary DNS.
  • Step 6 – Go to MTU Settings
  • Step 7 – Select Automatic
  • Step 8 – Go to Proxy Server and select Do Not Use.

Restart your console and check if the problem has been solved.

Fix 3 – Restore your licenses

By restoring your licenses, you sync your PSN purchases with your user account. If you’re getting this error because the game doesn’t think you’re eligible to play multiplayer.

How to restore your PlayStation Network licenses:

  • Step 1 – Go to Settings
  • Step 2 – Click on Account Management
  • Step 3 – Select Restore Licenses
  • Step 4 – Wait until your licenses are restored
  • Step 5 – Restart your console and try to join multiplayer to see if the issue has been fixed.

Fix 3 – Reinstall the problematic game

If none of the methods listed above worked, you can try reinstalling the game that’s throwing this error. In this manner, you’ll fix any missing or corrupted game files that may prevent you from initializing the session manager on PS4.

Hope something helps.
