Fix Discord: You Are Being Rate Limited

discord you are being rate limited

If Discord is displaying the ‘You are being rate limited’ error, this indicates you cannot use the text verification method to enter new channels.

What Triggers ‘You are Being Rate Limited’ Errors on Discord?

If Discord detects you entered an incorrect text verification code multiple times, it will block you from using this method for security reasons.

In this manner, Discord makes sure to secure your account and block users from trying to guess the verification code.

This is because many hacking tools use random codes to gain control over your account. If the wrong code is entered multiple times, Discord will simply block the access to the text verification feature.

How to Troubleshoot Rate Limited Errors on Discord

Fix 1 – Wait patiently

If you’re the real Discord account owner and you entered the wrong code more than once, just have a little patience and try again later. Log out, wait an hour and then log back in.

Fix 2 Restart your modem/router

Restarting your Internet connection may also help. In this manner, you’ll get rid of the cache and refresh your IP address.

Discord uses your IP address to implement the ban. If you’re not using a static IP address, you should be able to get rid of this error simply by restarting or power cycling your router.

To do this, unplug your router’s power cable from the wall socket. Then, press and hold the Power button for 30 seconds to flush out all the cache.

Plug the power cable back and power up your network devices.

Fix 3 – Use a VPN

On the other hand, if you’re using a static IP address, you can use a VPN to change it. Since Discord is relying on IP information to set up the ban, using a new IP should work.

Of course, this is only a temporary workaround which works only as long as you keep the VPN running.

We hope something helps.
