Apex Legends may sometimes throw an annoying error message that says “Checking PlayStation network status gave us an error! Please retry.” This error prevents you from launching the game. Let’s explore how you can fix it.

How to fix PlayStation Network error when launching Apex Legends

Restart your console and router

Let’s start off by restarting your console and router. Do that and check if the problem persists.

If this is the case, shut down your PlayStation console, and unplug the power cable. Then unplug your router as well. Wait for two minutes to get rid of flea power. Plug in the power cables, power up your devices, and check the results.

Select a new data center

Go to the main menu, and hit R3 to select a new data center. Many gamers confirmed that switching to a different data center instantly fixed the problem. Maybe the server you’re trying to connect to is down or overloaded.

Change NAT type

Go to your router’s login page and change the NAT type from Secured to Open. Many users who would get kicked off confirmed that changing the NAT settings fixed the problem.

If you own a Netgear router, follow the steps below:

  1. Open a new browser tab and enter routerlogin.com.
  2. Enter your username and password. You can also contact your ISP and ask them for this information.
  3. Go to Advanced, and click on Setup.
  4. Then go to WAN Setup.
  5. Go to NAT Filtering, and change the settings from Secured to Open.

If you own a different router model, go to your router manufacturer’s website for step-by-step instructions.

Change your DNS settings

If the error persists, try changing your DNS settings to 8.8.8.8 (primary DNS) and 8.8.4.4 (secondary DNS).

  1. Navigate to Settings, and select Network.
  2. Then go to Set Up Internet Connection, and select your current network (LAN or Wi-Fi).
    • If you’re on Wi-Fi, navigate to Custom → Select Network → IP Address Settings (automatic) → DHCP Host Name (Do Not Use) → DNS Settings (Manual).
    • If you’re on LAN, navigate to Custom → IP Address Settings (Automatic) → DHCP Host Name (Do Not Use) →DNS Settings (Manual).
  3. Then, manually enter the new DNS settings.
  4. Log back in, restart your PS4 console, and check if you can launch Apex.
