What does it mean to jockey in FIFA?

FIFA-jockey-defending-strategy

Jockey is a term used in FIFA games that refers to an advanced defending strategy where defenders don’t tackle a striker directly but track them at a 3-5 meter distance in order to delay the attack.

Jockeying increases your chance of blocking the ball and is a far more effective way of defending than containing. You can stop your opponent from dribbling passed your defenders.

To perform a jockey move in FIFA, hold down the L2/LT button. The defender will quickly position themselves close to the attacker in an attempt to prevent them from getting near the box.

Jockeying allows defenders to cut off the passing lane of strikers and block their angle of shoot.

This defending tactic allows your defender to face up to the attacker and pressure them. By pressuring them, you can force a dodgy pass which allows you to intercept the ball.

You can also force your opponents to move into areas of the pitch which aren’t as threatening to your goalkeeper. By jockeying, you basically put your defender between the striker and your own goalkeeper.

Another advantage of jockeying is the ability to sprint whilst doing so.

Defenders use this technique to force strikers to move to the side or perform various skill moves such as dribbling. The sweet spot for tackling your opponents is right after they perform a skill move.

Use this window of opportunity to tackle them.

Enjoy the game!
