FIFA: How to defend against dribblers

FIFA-defend-against-dribblers

The best strikers have a small body frame, they’re fast and light and have excellent Dribbling skills. They can easily take the ball forwards past your defenders and score amazing goals.

Defending against strikers that possess excellent Dribbling skills is not easy, especially if your defenders are tall and sturdy.

But there are a few tips and tricks that you can use to outsmart dribblers.

How do you defend against fast dribblers in FIFA?

Patience is your best friend when defending against dribblers. The best defensive strategy against dribblers is to follow your opponent without moving too much.

Your opponent uses dribbling moves to make you move and create a window of opportunity to exploit the space behind you.

Don’t fall into their trap. If you challenge them, most likely they’ll be able to get past your defenders. Protect the space behind your defenders and dribblers will have nowhere to go.

This will force your opponent to move to a side. Follow them to block the shot but don’t tackle them.

The idea is to stand between your opponent and your own goalie. Don’t rely too much on AI as this can often give good players an opening.

Using jockey (L2) will make your defenders react faster when it comes to blocking strikers’ actions. Hold down L2 to shadow dribblers at a 3-5 m distance.

Be patient, keep jockeying, and cut off the passing lane and their angle to shoot. Force them to go to the side. Prevent them from getting inside the box.

Keep tracking them and wait until they make a mistake and dribble too close to you.

Tackle your opponent only after the ball goes far beyond their feet. Keep your distance and tackle them after they perform a skill move. Don’t tackle them while they’re doing a skill move.
