Elden Ring: Spell damage varies depending on weather

Elden-Ring-Spell-damage-weather

Did you know that in Elden Ring, Spell damage changes with the in-game weather conditions? For example, Fire spells do less damage when it’s raining. On the other hand, Lightning spells do more damage when it’s pouring.

Let’s dive right into the details of this fascinating game mechanic.

Spell damage changes with in-game weather conditions

The Elden Ring environment can affect the strength of pyromancies and miracles. Rain and water will boost your Lightning damage and weaken your Fire damage. Rain also changes Lightning resistance. Enemies that usually have high Lightning resistance will become extremely vulnerable to Lightning Spells when it’s raining.

How to use this game mechanic to your advantage

Let’s take lightning resistance, for example. The Looking Glass Knight has the highest lightning resistance of all the bosses in Elden Ring. Fight him when it’s raining as rain significantly reduces his lightning resistance. Use the same strategy when fighting other bosses with high lightning resistance, such as the Covetous Demon, Mytha, Baneful Queen, or the Ancient Soldier Varg.

Interestingly, Lightning spells also create a large lightning AoE when cast into water. Keep this detail in mind when fighting against large groups of enemies.

Dry and wet damage for Lightning and Flame Spells

Redditor Divinum Fulmen has done some testing and compared dry and wet damage for various Lightning and Flame spells.

Name FP Cost Dry Damage Wet Damage Dry Efficiency Wet Efficiency
Flame Sling 11 566 509 51.5 46.3
Lightning Spear 18 466 513 25.9 28.5
Honed Bolt 12 324 356 27 29.7356

By the way, if you want to increase spell damage, use special Talismans for sorcery.
