Elden Ring: Where to find rare Smithing Stones

Smithing Stones are important and rare upgrade materials in Elden Ring. You can use them to boost your equipment’s capabilities.

There are nine categories of Smithing Stones available in the game. Each category strengthens armaments from +3 up to +25.

Let’s explore how you can get your hands on these handy upgrade materials.

Where to find rare Smithing Stones in Elden Ring

The rarest Smithing Stones are those of category 4 and above. You can use them to strengthen your weapons from +15 up to + 25. The more strength the stone adds to your weapon, the rarer it is.

  • Smithing Stone (4): Strengthens armaments up to +12
  • Smithing Stone (5): Strengthens armaments up to +15
  • Smithing Stone (6): Strengthens armaments up to +18
  • Smithing Stone (7): Strengthens armaments up to +21
  • Smithing Stone (8): Strengthens armaments up to +24
  • Smithing Stone (9): Strengthens armaments up to +25

Where to find Smithing Stone (4)

Go to the Roundtable Hold, and offer a Smithing-Stone Miner’s Bell Bearing item to the Twin Maiden Husks to gain access to Smithing Stone (4) items.

Purchase this item from the Twin Maiden Husks for 3600 Runes.

Go to the Artist’s Shack, and loot it off the corpse sitting on a chair near the precipice.

In Siofra River, you can find Smithing Stones (4) on the corpses located near the waterfall, and the ruins.

In Ainsel River, loot the item off the corpse dangling from the top of a tall archway.

Inside Caria Manor, you’ll find a few Smithing Stones (4) at the altar inside the chapel.

You’ll find 10-15 Smithing Stones (4) inside the cave that goes through the Ruin-Strewn Precipice.

You can also loot Smithing Stones (4) of the corpses located near the northern Uhl Palace Ruins, and the caves of Ainsel River Main.

Where to find Smithing Stone (5)

There are plenty of Smithing Stones (5) in the Altus Tunnel, Old Altus Tunnel, Wyndham Catacombs, and Wyndham Ruins.

Collect the items dropped by Leyndell soldiers in Leyndell Royal Capital.

In the Sealed Tunnel in Leyndell Royal Capital, go to the second hidden area, midway through the elevator.

You can loot Smithing Stones (5) of the corpses located at the following locations:

  • The Iron Ball Trap in Raya Lucaria Academy
  • The courtyards, ruins, and graveyard of Nokron, Eternal City
  • The Siofra Aqueduct
  • The caves of Ainsel River Main

Where to find Smithing Stone (6)

Beat the Fallingstar Beast boss atop Mt. Gelmir and you’ll get five Smithing Stones (6) items.

Loot the item off the corpses you’ll find at the side of a building in Nokstella Eternal City, on a rooftop near Guest Hall Grace, at the little patio in Leyndell Royal Capital, or at the bottom of the waterfall in Grand Cloister.

Where to find Smithing Stone (7)

Beat the Fallingstar Beast boss at the end of the Sellia Crystal Tunnel and you’ll get five Smithing Stone (7) items.

Loot it from the Guardian’s Garrison in Mountaintops of Giants.

Loot it off the corpse located at the bottom of the waterfall in Grand Cloister.

Where to find Smithing Stone (8)

You’ll come across plenty of Smithing Stone (8) in Crumbling Farum Azula. You can also stumble upon these stones in the Consecrated Snowfield area, near the Lunar Estate Ruins, and within the Subterranean Shunning Grounds.

Where to find Smithing Stone (9)

Here are the main locations where you can find Somber Smithing Stone in Elden Ring:

  • Crumbling Farum Azula
    • Found on corpses lying around in various locations: In the abandoned temple on the North side of Crumbling Farum Azula, on a raised platform in Lake of Rot, on the bridge above the Ancient Snow Valley Ruins site of grace, etc.
  • Dragonbarrow, Caelid:
    • Dropped by a Teardrop Scarab found to the west of Farum Greatbridge.
    • Found on a corpse inside a small building in Miquella’s Haligtree south of the Haligtree Town Plaza Site of Grace.
    • Found on a corpse inside a room at the northern end of the ring walkway in the east. Guarded by a Crystalian (non-boss).
    • Found on a corpse inside a dark building guarded by 3 Crystalians (non-boss).
  • Consecrated Snowfield
    • Found on a corpse sitting on a chair, to the northeast of the Apostate Derelict.
    • Can be looted on top of a rock formation North of the Hidden Path to the Haligtree.
  • Mohgwyn Palace
  • Halligtree
