Many Elden Ring players are wondering if killing Patches is a good idea. After all, he’s not the most likeable NPC in the game, to say the least. Let’s weigh the advantages and disadvantage of killing Patches.
Should I kill Patches in Elden Ring?
You should not kill Patches, you have far more advantages if you let him live. If you kill him, you can’t complete his quest and unlock the armor with the most poise in the game (the Great Horned Targoth’s armor set). He’s more useful to you alive than dead. Killing him doesn’t bring you any major advantages as he doesn’t drop a lot of Runes or rare items.
What happens if I kill Patches?
If you kill Patches, he’ll drop the following items:
- Patches’ Bell Bearing
- Spear +7
- Leather Armor, Gloves, and Boots
- x2 Golden Rune
His Shop Items won’t be lost, you can give Patches’ Bell Bearing to the Twin Maiden Husks to unlock his shop there and get all the items he sells, including the item you need for Margit.
Basically, the Twin Maiden Husks at the Round Table will sell you all his items.
Can you bring Patches back in Elden Ring?
If you kill Patches, you can’t bring him back. There is no option to resurrect him. Unfortunately, Celestial Dew, a consumable item that can revive dead NPCs, doesn’t work on Patches. The only thing you can do is either reload an old save or start a new character.
Where to find Patches in Elden Ring?
In Elden Ring, you can find Patches in the Murkwater Cave dungeon which is located north of Lake Agheel. Inside the dungeon, there’s a large chest that you need to open to make Patches talk to you. A few seconds later, he’ll start attacking you.
When you reach Murkwater Cave, you need to get off your horse. Soon after, the Bloody Finger Nerijus NPC will show up forcing you to fight him. After defeating Nerijus, enter the Murkwater Cave and keep exploring until you find a large room where you’ll see a large chest.
Once you open the chest, Patches will start talking to you and then attack you. You need to open the chest to awaken Patches.
However, don’t do too much damage to him. Patches will surrender after losing half his health. Wait until he gives up fighting, accept his surrender, and the fight will be over. He’ll then invite you to complete his quest.
By the way, as a reward for letting Patches live, you’ll also get x2 Golden Rune and Grovel for Mercy.
