The first NPC you’ll meet in Elden Ring is White-Faced Varre. You’ll encounter him near the first Site of Grace. Interact with him and pay attention to the pieces of advice he gives you.
At a given moment, he’ll call you maidenless. Such a remark might push many players to kill Varre. But is that really a good idea? Let’s find out!
What happens if I kill White-Faced Varre?
If you kill White-Faced Varre, he’ll drop 500 Runes and 6 Festering Bloody Finger. If you kill him before completing his questline, the game will lock you out of his quest that leads to the best farming method in the game. You’ll need to start a new game if you want to complete his quest.
Elden Ring supports multiple characters and multiple saves. You can start a new game if you killed the wrong NPC.
Should I kill White-Faced Varre?
You should not kill White-Faced Varre early in the game. He’s an important NPC and killing him will mess up your game. First, complete his quest and then decide if you want to kill him or not. If you want to collect the Festering Bloody Finger he drops, then you should kill him. You can use this item to interact with other players. Additionally, you can use the 500 Runes he drops as currency or spend them to level up your character.
Varre is one of the rare friendly NPC in Elden Ring. That’s another reason why you should not kill him.
By the way, another friendly NPC is Alexander the Potboy. You’ll encounter him later in the game.
Can you revive Varre in Elden Ring?
You cannot revive Varre in Elden Ring. While you can use Celestial Dew and atone at the Chuch of Vows to revive dead merchant NPCs, this method doesn’t work on Varre. He’s dead forever. He cannot be respawned at church of Vows.
So, what decision did you take? Did you kill Varre? Or did you spare his little life? Let me know in the comments below.

Damn so I killed him and shouldn’t have so now I can’t bring him back alive or do his questline
Uh…yeah, I got the sentinel to kill him. I can now see why the game makes no sense.
