Many CS:GO players complained about their crosshair not being properly aligned which significantly influences their accuracy in a negative manner. In this guide, I’ll explain why your crosshair is not centred and how you can fix that.
How do I center my crosshair in CS:GO?
In CS:GO, not all cl_crosshairthickness values are suitable for any resolution. If the cl_crosshairthickness settings are not appropriate for the current resolution settings of your display, then the crosshair can be misaligned.
These are recommended values for three of the most common screen resolutions:
- 1280 x 1024: cl_crosshairthickness 0, 1.5, 2.5
- 1024 x 768: cl_crosshairthickness 0, 2, 3
- 1080p: cl_crosshairthickness 0, 1.5, 3
How to check if your crosshair is misaligned in CS:GO
If you want to check your crosshair alignment, follow these steps:
- Go to an empty server
- Select a weapon that comes equipped with a scope
- Scope in and try to aim at the center of a wall
- Zoom in and check if your reference remains in the center of your crosshair.
If it does, this means that your crosshair is perfectly aligned. If it doesn’t, this is a clear indication that your crosshair is misaligned and you need to tweak your settings.
Is crosshair alignment that important in CS:GO?
Crosshair alignment is important but it’s not essential or crucial. Even if the crosshair is misaligned by a pixel or two, that one pixel or those two pixels is not enough to prevent you from hitting your target.
Actually, keep in mind that there is no center pixel on your screen. Actually, what you perceive as being the center of your screen are actually four pixels. When you shoot, the shot actually lands in the middle of those 4 pixels.
Therefore, the crosshair thickness is not crucial unless you use the 0.5 value. This value is only 1 pixel wide and you won’t be able to see the middle of the screen if you use it.
Weapon accuracy and handling are much more important than crosshair settings.
As a quick piece of advice, try to use a crosshair width with an even number. As explained above, this will help you to center your crosshair.
On the other hand, if you use a crosshair that has an odd number, the crosshair won’t be centered.
And now you know how crosshair thickness settings influence crosshair alignment.
By the way, if you want to further customize your CS:GO experience, you can change your in-game name and language to your liking.
Happy gaming everyone!
