The game will ask you to set up a player name only the first time you launch it. But if you don’t enter a name when you first launch the game, you’ll enter the arena as ‘Player‘.
That’s not a name that spreads fear among your enemies, is it?
The good news is that you can change your game in CS:GO as often as you like whenever you want. This means that you can easily change your name in the middle of a game if you want to confuse the other players.
Keep in mind the name-changing process takes a few moments. It’s best to do that between rounds or after you died so as to avoid getting hit while being busy changing your player name.

Method 1 – Change your name from the console
If you suddenly decide that you no longer like your name and you want to change it in the middle of the game, the quickest method is to use the console.
The main advantage when using the console is that it does not cover your whole screen allowing you to stay connected to the action.
- Open the console by pressing ~ or the key you assigned for launching the Developer Console
- Type name, enter a space, and then add your name
- Hit Enter and then press ~ or your Developer Console key to close the console.
The changes are visible as soon as you’ve closed the console.

Method 2 – Use the Options menu to change your CS:GO name
Another method to change your name is to use the good old Options menu.
- Navigate to your game options
- Go to the Multiplayer tab
- Click on the Player Name box and add a new name.
