If you want to change in-game language in Counter Strike: Global Offensive, this guide is for you.
Follow the instructions listed below and you’ll be able to change the default game language.
This is how you can change the game language in CS: GO
Method 1 – Use the Language tab
- Open Steam and go to your game library
- Select CS:GO from your library
- Right-click on the game to open Properties
- Click on the Language tab
- In the drop-down menu, select the language you want to use and click OK.
Keep in mind that some languages are not supported. If CS:GO supports the language you want to use, you’ll see it listed in the drop-down menu.
For some languages, you may need to download additional language files before you can set the new language.
Method 2 – Tweak Starting parameters
- Launch Steam
- Go to Library
- Select CS:GO in your game library list
- Click on Properties
- Select Starting Parameters or Set launch options depending on your game version
- Add the following codes to change the language:
- -language English for English
- -language RU for Russian or -language Russian
- -language PT for Portuguese or -language Portuguese
- -language Japanese
- -language Turkish
- -language Chinese
- etc.
The supported languages are the following: English, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Portuguese-Brazil, Romanian, Russian, Simplified Chinese, Spanish Swedish, Thai Traditional, Chinese, Turkish ,Bulgarian, and Ukrainian.
This method allows you to change the game language without changing Steam language.
For some users, adding just the acronyms (like RU, PT) worked, for others it didn’t. Try using for the short (-language RU) and the long version (-language Russian) to see which works for you. Try to use lowercase too.
Method 3 – Use the Registry Editor
- Launch the Registry Editor
- Follow this path: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Valve\Steam
- Double click on the Language key to open it
- Under the second box, remove the current language and replace with what language you want.
Make sure to use only lowercase when typing the name of the language you want to add.
Method 4 – Edit the rev.ini file
- Open the CS main folder
- Locate the rev.ini file
- Open it in a text editor, preferably Notepad
- Locate the language line
- Change the language settings by adding the name of the language you want to use. Example “language=Russian” or “language = english”, and so on
- Save the file.
And these are 4 quick ways to change the in-game language in CS:GO.
By the way, you can also change your name as often as you like whenever you want.
