When you try to propose in Sims 4, you may sometimes get a strange alert that says marrying a Sim in your employ would be inappropriate. The option to propose is greyed out and you can’t use it.
Follow the troubleshooting solutions below to get rid of this notification and carry on with your marriage proposal.
Fix: Marrying a Sim in your employ would be inappropriate
Break up with other romantic partners
If your Sim has several other romantic partners, the option to propose will be greyed out. The same is valid if their partner is in other romantic relationships. You need to break up with those people and then you can marry each other.
Simply ask them to be friends.
For example, if you’re completing the Serial Romantic aspiration, you need to have 8 significant others. Invite them all to your lot, and break up with them. The game should then let your Sim marry their fiancé/e.
It’s possible that the game gets confused if you have multiple partners. To make things easier, it forces you to settle down with just one partner.
Check if there’s a job-related conflict of interest
The Sims 4 will alert you that marrying a Sim in your employ is inappropriate even if there’s no real employment relationship there. However, there might be a job-related conflict of interest somewhere.
For example, if your Sim is a writer and their boyfriend is a mail carrier, there’s a conflict of interest. Writers use the mailbox to send out their books.
If you’re in a similar situation, make your partner quit their job and check if you can propose.
Install the “Inappropriate to Marry” fix
