Baldur’s Gate 3 Not Gaining XP [What to Do]

Baldurs-Gate-Not-Gaining-Experience

In Baldur’s Gate 3, you might encounter a situation where your character isn’t gaining XP while the rest of your party is progressing. This can leave your character a level behind the others.

Let’s unravel why this happens and what you can do about it.

Not All Experience Is Shared

In Baldur’s Gate 3, everyone in your party typically receives the same amount of experience, regardless of how many members are in the group.

If you have a new companion joining your party, they will start at the same level as your existing members.

It’s a level playing field for everyone in terms of experience gain.

The Exception: Inspiration XP

One exception to this rule is Inspiration XP.

When a character gets Inspiration Experience in Baldur’s Gate 3, only that specific character receives XP gain. This doesn’t affect the overall party XP distribution.

Inspiration is earned by characters when they engage in actions aligned with their Background.

Think of these actions as decisions that best fit your character’s motivations and personality.

For example, if your character has the Charlatan Background, they’ll get Inspiration XP when they use the art of manipulation.

You can hold a maximum of four Inspiration Points.

When you’re already at this maximum, fulfilling Background Goals will exclusively reward you with XP points.

Temporary Glitch Alert

If you find yourself in a situation where the other members have leveled up, but your character hasn’t, this is probably a glitch.

Fortunately, this glitch usually resolves itself after one more combat encounter.

Your character should then level up like the rest of the party.

How to Level up Fast in Baldur’s Gate 3

If you want to speed up your character’s progression, you need to defeat as many enemies as possible and explore side quests.

1. Battle for Experience

Defeating enemies is one of the quickest ways to gain XP and level up in Baldur’s Gate 3.

Engage in battles whenever you can, and remember, more battles mean more experience.

Don’t back down from a good old brawl.

Take, for instance, those ogres in the barn. If you duke it out with them, you’re in for a hefty XP boost. But if you try the Bard Persuasion move, you won’t get as much XP.

You do get XP for talking your way out of combat, but generally not exactly as much as if you killed everything.

2. Main Quests and Side Quests

Completing quests is another effective method to earn XP.

Don’t forget about side quests. They can be a goldmine of experience points.

Always seize the opportunity to embark on new quests.

Baldur’s Gate 3 boasts a vast and immersive world. Explore every nook and cranny to find additional enemies and quests.

The more you explore, the more XP you can collect, which translates to faster leveling.

In conclusion, while Baldur’s Gate 3 usually ensures a fair distribution of experience among party members, occasional glitches can cause temporary discrepancies.

Engaging in battles, questing, and thorough exploration are your allies when it comes to leveling up swiftly in Baldur’s Gate 3.

So, dive in, adventure awaits!
