Baldur’s Gate 3: Can’t Have Disadvantage Against Target

Baldurs-Gate-3-Cant-Have-Disadvantage-Against-Target

Are you constantly getting the error message Can’t Have Disadvantage Against Target in Baldur’s Gate 3 when you try to pull off a sneak attack?

Don’t worry, you’re not alone. This pesky issue can disrupt your sneak attacks, making your gameplay less satisfying.

The problem is particularly evident with Astarion, one of your companions, mainly because of his default armor.

I’ve got a couple of workarounds for you to try. Let’s get you back on track!

Baldur’s Gate 3: Can’t Have Disadvantage Against Target

The error Can’t Have Disadvantage Against Target in Baldur’s Gate 3 suggests that you’re missing the two necessary conditions for a successful sneak attack.

To pull off a sneak attack, you need an advantage in some form or a friendly ally standing close to your target, and you must avoid having any disadvantages.

When it comes to disadvantages for ranged attacks, they typically stem from two situations: being too close to your target and your target being obscured.

1. Change Astarion’s Armor

The simplest solution to get rid of the alert that says you can’t have a disadvantage against the target is changing Astarion’s armor.

His default armor is the main trigger of this annoying error.

Swap it out for a different piece of armor if you have one.

This should clear up the error and let you go back to pulling off those satisfying sneak attacks.

The only problem is when you don’t have another suitable armor for Astarion.

2. Get Rid of Your Disadvantage

Assess your current situation and identify the disadvantages preventing you from pulling off a sneak attack.

The easiest ways to gain advantage are either by hiding or by having an ally positioned within 1.5 meters of the target you’re attacking to distract the target.

Get in stealth mode before attacking.

If you’re standing too near your target, it’s harder to make a sneak attack without being detected.

If your target is in a dimly lit area or partially hidden, it’s tougher to aim accurately for a sneak attack.

Any circumstance that puts you at a disadvantage will trigger this error.

For example, if you’re poisoned or facing some other hindrance, the game will also show the error message.

3. Switch to a Different Character

Another approach involves loading a previously saved game file or an autosaved one.

Switch to a different character for your sneak attacks.

This might mean you’ll need to adjust your strategy a bit, but it’s worth trying to avoid this annoying error.

The idea here is to avoid putting yourself in the same situation with the same companion, so get creative with your approach.

Happy gaming!
