- This is a guide on how Valorant ranks work and what ranks can play together.
Valorant has clear rank restrictions when it comes to playing together. In order to play together, players must be within 2 ranks (or 6 tiers) of each other.
There are 8 ranks in Valorant: Iron, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Immortal, and Valorant. Each rank has 3 tiers.
Speaking of ranks, if you want to learn more about them and the ultimate rank in the game, this guide has all the answers to your questions.
Competitive Mode requirements in Valorant
There are also other requirements to play in competitive mode. New players need to play 20 unranked matches before being able to join more experienced players in Competitive Mode.
After 20 matches, gamers should gain enough experience to play in Competitive Mode without getting hit the very second the game starts.
After you played 5 Competitive Placement Matches, the game will automatically determine your rank.
As you continue to play, gain more experience and unlock new agents and capabilities, you’ll be able to level up and access superior ranks.
How to improve your rank
The game takes several elements into account when it comes to ranking you up. Of course, victories and winning games matter a lot, but this is not the only factor.
If you lose matches but you did exceptionally well, you still have a high chance of ranking up.
As Riot Games explains:
You’ll also be measured by how decisively you win or lose, so there is a benefit to your rank to play your best for the full match. The more games you play, along with an increase in rank, the more winning will be weighted. You can view the progression of your rank by looking at the arrows to the bottom right of your Rank Icon.
The good news is that your rank won’t decay even if you don’t play competitively for a while. Once you’re back in the game, your previous rank will show back up.
And one last thing, your rank in Closed Beta won’t carry over to launch. Riot will reset all the ranks on release day so that everybody can start on an even playing field.
