When you try to add new items to your Sims 4 game, you may sometimes get an error message that says the item must be placed on specific objects.
Certain items can’t be placed as stand-alone items. They need to be placed on specific objects.
For example, microwaves are supposed to be placed on counters.
Dishwashers are supposed to be put inside counters. Place your counter and then put the dishwasher in the exact same spot as the counter. You can use the basic counter to get the job done.
Make sure the counter doesn’t have a sink or anything else on them.
You should no longer get the “Must be placed on specific objects” alert if you do that.
If you own Dine Out, you can use the free-standing dishwasher. You can place it on your lot without a counter.
What to do if The Sims 4 says item must be placed on specific objects
Use MoveObjects
To get rid of the “Must be placed on specific objects” alert, you can enable the MoveObjects cheat.
Press Ctrl, Shift, and C, and type in testingcheats true. Then, type in bb.moveobjects on and press Enter.
This cheat allows you to move objects freely in the game with no restrictions when placing objects.
However, this quick workaround may not always work.
The MoveObjects cheat won’t work when you try to move an object onto a table or counter.
For example, when it comes to placing a microwave on the table, you’ll still get the “Must be placed on specific objects” alert. This is because the microwave has to be on a counter.
The same is valid if you’re trying to place a dishwasher. You need to place the dishwasher under a counter. You can’t use the MoveObjects cheat to bypass this restriction.
Raise or lower objects
Use the 9 key to raise objects or the zero key to lower them and you should be able to get rid of the “Must be placed on specific objects” alert.
For instance, you can press the 9 key to raise the microwave to table height. Then, hold Alt to place it on the table.
Llamas and cows must be placed on specific objects
If you own Cottage Living, you may sometimes get the “Must be placed on specific objects” alert when you try to bring your llama or cow out of home inventory and move them to their sheds.
To solve the problem, you need to delete the old sheds and then place new ones from Build Mode. After placing the new sheds on your lot, you can assign an animal from your inventory without the game saying that you must place them on specific objects.
Happy Simming!
