I have the same problem. Celebrity Chief 10, Cooking skills 10, Gourmet skill 10, Baking skills 10 and a top end stove, yet four fires in five cooking attempts. Yet my Sim was highly motivated at the time? 13,000 Simoleans per burnt out stove is ridiculous and frustrating. The insurance was around 5,000 Simoleans and only offered once? This hurts my sims finances.
The other annoying thing is why my Celebrity Chief has to spend their own money and practice cooking when they are already top grade in their field?

So I’ve checked everywhere. Every single time I cook with coming skill 10 and the best stove it catches fire. I’ve drank fear be gone and got removed fear of fire several times from all Sims in house and it still catches fire. No negative mood no cursed trait. On legacy challenge for first time and this issue is about to end me. I’ve researched and double checked anything it could be and none the less fires start everytime. I’m giving up.

In reply to Perry. I've also tried moving my sims to a new residence. Guess what? Everytime any sim tried to cook, the stove became inflamed. This has to be a PROGRAMMING ISSUE! There is no reason for EACH and EVERY sim who uses the stove/oven for it to engulf in flames. I have tried using different ovens with different sims at variables of skill levels. Each and every time any sim used the stove/oven, it would engulf in flames. Someone needs to fix this issue! This did not start happening until the last update of the game.

Honestly, this is wrong. My sims have a level 10 in cooking, level 8 in gourmet cooking, fully upgraded high-end stove and everytime they cook ANYTHING, the stove starts on fire. Heck, my sim was making a garden salad and the stove started burning!
