This guide discusses why your PS5 console may sometimes get stuck on a black screen. I’ll also list some potential solutions to help you fix the problem.
This issue can occur after you wake up the console, in mid-game, or after the PlayStation logo appears on the screen.
Why is my PS5 stuck on a black screen?
If your PS5 gets stuck on a black screen after the PlayStation logo, this indicates the console did not boot up properly. Restarting it should fix the issue.
A black screen may also indicate your TV cannot handle the PS5 video output. Your PS5 video output resolution is higher than what your TV can handle. To fix the issue, lower the resolution, and check if you notice any improvements.
How do I fix my PS5 if it’s stuck on a black screen?
To fix your PS5 console that got stuck on a black screen, shut it down, unplug the external drive and check your HDMI cable. Go to PS5 settings and lower your PS5’s video output resolution. Additionally, disable HDR, Deep color temp, and HDCP.
Here’s a quick breakdown of the steps to follow.
Power off your PS5 and unplug the external drive
Press and hold the Power button until you hear two beeps to power off your console. Then unplug your external hard drive.
Boot up your console again, and check if the screen is still black. Connect your external drive and launch your favorite games.
If the problem persists, turn off your TV, unplug the power cable to remove flea power, and wait for two minutes. Power up your device again, and check the results.
Check your HDMI cable
A faulty or loose HDMI cable could also be causing the black screen issue you’re experiencing.
- Unplug your HDMI cable and plug it back in.
- Visually inspect the cable and check if it’s broken or faulty.
- Use a different cable and switch to a different HDMI port.
Lower the resolution
If your TV can’t render your PS5’s output resolution properly, the screen will go black.
- Go to PS5 Settings
- Select Change Video Output
- Then select Change Resolution
- Lower your resolution
Disable HDR, Deep color temp, and HDCP
- Go to System options
- Select Screen and Video
- Disable 4K HDR and Deep color temp
If the issue persists, disable HDCP as well.
Many users confirmed that tweaking these settings solved the problem for them. It seems that sometimes there’s a discrepancy between your console and TV.
