fix Nintendo Switch wifi

All Nintendo Switch users have experienced Internet connection issues at some point. This is one of the most frequently encountered issues on this gaming console.

Nintendo Switch Internet connection problems are extremely annoying especially when they occur in the heat of the action just when you were about to finish off that boss that had prevented you from advancing to the next level.

Unfortunately, when it comes to fixing Nintendo Switch Internet connection errors, there aren’t many solutions available.

To help you resume your gaming session as soon as possible, we did the homework for you and compiled this  list of workarounds that you can use to fix Nintendo Switch Internet issues.

Troubleshoot Nintendo Switch not connecting to Wi-Fi

Fix 1 – Restart your console

The first thing to do if your Nintendo Switch won’t connect to network is to restart it. If the issue persists, try restarting the console several times. Hopefully, the console should find the WiFi after several restarts.

Fix 2 –  Change your Wi-Fi security protocol

There are certain security protocols that your console can’t identify. As a result, the device won’t connect to a Wi-Fi network that features an incompatible security mode.

Keep in mind that the Nintendo Switch supports the following wireless security modes: WEP, WPA-PSK(AES), WPA2-PSK (AES).

So, if you’re using WPA TKIP for example, the Nintendo Switch won’t connect to your WiFi DNS. Change your security mode to a compatible protocol and then try again.

The console supports the following frequencies and modes:

  • Wireless frequencies: 2.4 GHz, 5 Ghz
  • Wireless modes: 802.11b, 802.11g, 802.11n, 802.11ac

Fix 3 –  Use the console without the dock

Some users complained that Internet connection issues occurred after docking their consoles. The solution is to simply undock the device and use it in handheld mode.

Fix 4 –  Optimize your Wi-Fi signal

Make sure there are no items interfering with your modem/router such as mobile phones, microwave ovens, and so on. Also, optimize your modem/router’s location and put it 1 or 2 feet off the ground.

Fix 5 –  Change MTU settings

Other gamers suggested that changing MTU settings to 1500 and the control channel from 153 to something less than 149 fixed the problem.

There you go, one of these workarounds should help you fix the problem. We hope your Nintendo Switch can now connect to the Internet.
