League of Legends: How To Change The Language

League of Legends is one of the most popular games in the world. Millions of gamers play this game every day.

LOL is like wine — it gets better with time. The game was released over 12 years ago and increased its user base with every passing year.

However, there is one thing that has been bothering fans for a long time. There is no official option to change the game language.

What does this mean? In other words, players can’t change the game language on the League client.

If you bought the English version of the game, you can’t do anything to hear Korean voices for example. Or can you?

How to Change The Game Language in League of Legends

There is an unofficial method that you can use to change the language in LoL.

However, keep in mind that while this solution may work, it may also cause various update issues and errors. So, proceed at your own risk.

Tweak the yaml file

1. Locate this file:  LoL/RADS/projects/league_client/releases/0.0.0.XX/deploy/system.yaml. Select the highest 0.0.0.XX version. That’s the latest file.
2. Open it with a general text editor (Notepad is fine).
3. Navigate to your region options and add your language using the following structure:
   […]
   NA:
   available_locales:
   – en_US
   – fr_FR <–[add your language here]
   default_locale: fr_FR <–[set your language here]
   rso_platform_id: NA1
   […]
4. Then save the file and check if you can switch between languages.

Keep in mind that you can only switch to a language supported by the game server. Here are the languages available per region:

• BR: pt_BR
• EUNE: en_GB, cs_CZ, el_GR, hu_HU, pl_PL, ro_RO
• EUW: en_GB, de_DE, es_ES, fr_FR, it_IT
• JP: ja_JP
• LA1/LA2: es_MX
• NA: en_US
• OC1: en_AU
• RU: ru_RU
• TR: tr_TR

Keep in mind that you may need to repeat these steps after each game update.

Will Riot ever implement an in-game language option for LoL?

Many LoL fans explicitly asked Riot to add a button for changing the language in the game.

Unfortunately, it’s highly unlikely that Riot will ever add an option that allows League of Legends players to change the game language.

The method listed above is actually the only solution that you can use to change the game language.
