If Heroes of the Storm won’t start, follow the instructions available in this troubleshooting guide to fix the problem.
This issue usually occurs shortly after players install the latest game updates. However, it can also occur out of the blue: one minute ago you were able to launch the game without any problem, and now Heroes of the Storm is unresponsive or all sorts of error messages appear on the screen.
Heroes of the Storm error 275 is by far the most common error code affecting the launch phase of the game.
Other frequent errors are these: An error occurred starting Heroes of the Storm. Please try again. (Error 2:-1073741819) and An error occurred starting Heroes of the Storm. Please Try again. Error 5:740.

Fixing Heroes of the Storm Loading Problems
Fix 1 – Restart your computer and modem/ router
We’ll start off with basic troubleshooting steps. Simply reboot your computer and unplug your modem. Wait for two minutes. Then boot your PC up again and plug your modem. Check if the problem persists and if this is the case, go to the next solution.
Fix 2 – Update your operating system
Install the latest operating system version on your computer. We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again: any game that you’re playing depends on your OS to run smoothly.
Outdated OS versions often cause various technical issues and it’s best to avoid them by regularly updating your computer. You can set you computer to automatically install updates as soon as they’re available or you can manually check for updates.
Fix 3 – Scan and repair Heroes of the Storm
- Launch the Blizzard Battle.net desktop app
- Click the Heroes of the Storm icon
- Select Scan and Repair — the tool will begin scanning your game
- If it detects any game file issues, it will automatically repair them
- Wait for the repair process to finish
- Launch the game again.
Fix 4 – Run the executable from the directory
Go to the directory where you installed the game and launch the executable Heroes of the Storm.exe directly from there. Make sure to run the game as an administrator.
Fix 5 – Download another Battle.net game
Some gamers confirmed that downloading another game of the Battle.net helped them fix the problem. So, download and install another game of your choice, then try to launch Heroes of the Storm and it should work.
However, this is a temporary workaround. Almost all the gamers who resorted to this solution said that the issue was back a few days later.
Fix 6 – Start the game with DX9/ DX10
- Go to the Battle.net app -> navigate to Options -> go to Game Settings
- Check Additional command-line arguments
- Add –dx9
- Launch HotS to check if this workaround solved the issue.
Fix 7 – Disable video streaming
Other gamers said that turning off video streaming in the Battle.net launcher instantly fixed the problem. Try this solution and tell us if it worked for you as well.
Fix 8 – Uninstall both Heroes of the Storm and Battle.net
If nothing worked, it’s time to bring out the heavy artillery. Try uninstalling both HotS and Battle.net then reinstall the tools.
Once the game install has reached Playable, you can enjoy your favorite game.
⇒ Important! When uninstalling HotS, make sure that there are no related files and folders left on your computer.
You can also delete all HotS folders and when you launch Battle.net again, this will bring you to an almost complete HotS install in progress. Once the game is ‘Playable’, you can play it, but you cannot once you exit.
