Fortnite is one of the most popular games of the moment with over 125 million players. Due to the high number of active gamers, competition is fierce.
If you want to have the upper hand over your opponents, you should opt for a black skin. Why is that, you may ask? The answer is simple. If you use a black skin in Fortnite and you take cover in dark places, you basically become invisible.
Having a black skin allows you to take your enemies by surprise. If you stay still, they won’t even notice you’re there and then you can take them out easily.
Ha! Whenever I play with a black skin I have noticed I do much better and coincidentally in places where there’s a lot of shadow. I am a PC player and play in mixed lobbies with console players.
Unfair advantage for PC gamers
PC gaming offers more tactical advantages compared to console gaming. This is valid even when it comes to using black skins in Fornite. For this reason, many PS4 players decided to switch to PC gaming.
i played on a launch PS4 and im just glad i got competitive in gaming after i switched to PC. consoles have so much bs to deal with in comp
As many Fortnite players already know, the game really puts a strain on your CPU. Consoles don’t have the same processing power as PCs and this disadvantage may potentially influence your ranking.
So, what’s the solution?
In order to put console and PC players on a par and eliminate the unfair advantage offered by black skins, many gamers suggested that console players should have additional graphics options.
While some extra graphics settings would make for a good addition, I don’t think these settings should target black skins. Each and every skin has a different purpose and comes with its fair share of advantages and disadvantages.
Adding new graphics settings that make it easier for players to spot gamers who rely on black skins would simply not be fair.
What’s the point in striving to get your hands on a black skin knowing that competitors may simply activate some graphics options to identify your hiding place faster?
I know I would quickly lose interest in such a skin if this were the case.
Fortnite devs are working to optimize shadow rendering
In a recent Reddit AMA session, Fortnite devs addressed the shadow rendering problem that many users complained about. They’re working to tweak the shadow settings so as to make the characters stand out better.
We are adding an option to disable motion blur (off by default) in Season 8. Disabling shadows currently provides a gameplay benefit. This is not our intention and we are tweaking the way shadows are rendered to both brighten them and also make characters stand out better. This is going to be an ongoing effort starting with v8.0 and we will evaluate other options if this doesn’t end up working.
