Wii Remote Won’t Sync to Console | Troubleshooting Guide

fix wii remote not syncing to wii console

If you just bought a new Wii remove for your Nintendo Wii but you’re not quite sure how to set up the new controller, the steps listed in this guide will help you out. You can also use this guide if you already tried to sync your remote to your Nintendo Wii but you ran into some problems and the connection failed.

Why won’t my Wii Remote sync to my Wii? Your Wii Remote won’t connect to your Wii console due to weak battery issues or interference problems caused by other infrared and wireless accessories nearby.

So, if you own a Nintendo Wii but you can’t set up your remote, follow the steps listed below.

Preliminary checks

  • The sensor bar needs to be centred on top of your TV. You can also place it below your TV but we recommend the first variant.
  • The distance from your TV should not be over 10 feet.
  • Turn off other infrared light sources which might be interfering with the sensor bar.
  • Turn off all your wireless accessories located in the same room.

Wii Remote Won’t Sync to Console: Potential Fixes

Fix 1 – Take off the battery cover and sync the remote

  1. Power up your Wii
  2. Take off the battery cover of the remote
  3. Press the sync button on the remote. You should see all the blue LEDs light up and blink
  4. Press the sync button — you should find it under the SD card slot
  5. The blue LEDs on the remote will stop blinking when the connection to the console has been established.

Can any Wii remote work on any Wii? Original Wii Remote controllers are compatible with any Wii consoles. Keep in mind that only the Wii Remote that came with your Wii console is synced and ready to use. If you want to use additional Wii Remotes, you must first insert the batteries and then sync them to your Wii console.

Fix 2 – Get new batteries

If you haven’t changed your remote’s batteries in a while, they might have become weak. As a result, the remote will disconnect from the console or it won’t sync.

Replace the old batteries with new ones. Then turn off your console and unplug the power cord. Leave the device unplugged for one minute. Power up your console and then try to sync the remote again.
