Valorant characters are called Agents and each have their own set of unique abilities. When choosing an Agent, take a few seconds to think about your playing style and select the Agent that best matches it.
Many players complained they could not enter matches because Valorant threw an error indicating Agent selection failed. But that was not the case. Players did select their Agents, they just did not queue.
When this issue occurs, players can’t even leave the character selection screen and the timer stays on zero.
I’ve played two games or so, but now, every time I attempt to play, either I can’t pick my Agent or my Teammates can’t. Anyone can relate, or do you have a fix?
Workarounds for Valorant Not Selecting Agents
1. Check the server status
Not being able to select your Agents usually indicates there’s a server-side issue. You can restart the game and try to reconnect to Valorant servers. But if this is a major international outage, there is nothing you can do about it. Check Valorant’s game server status page to see if Riot already acknowledged the issue.
2. Dodge
If you can’t select an Agent, you can dodge. But keep in mind this action brings you a 50 second penalty. However, this workaround does not always work, but you can play Split instead.
3. Try again until you succeed
Other players confirmed they managed to select their Agents after the 8th or 10th attempt. So, if you’ve got enough patience, keep on trying to select your Agent until you succeed.
While there is currently not much information available about this glitch, Valorant players hope that Riot won’t follow the Apex Legends pattern whereby the game automatically assigns players an agent if they don’t select one.

Keep in mind that there is friendly fire and team damage in Valorant. So, you need to quickly become familiar with your agent’s abilities and learn how to use them wisely.
Each Agent has 4 key abilities:
- Signature Ability: This is a unique ability they receive each round for free.
- Ultimate Ability: As you get ore kills, this ability gradually charges up until it’s becomes fully available.
- Ability 1: This is an extra ability that you can buy between rounds.
- Ability 2: This is a second extra ability you can get using credits.

i just joined a party and didn’t even get to the selection screen and the next thing I see an hour penalty for not selecting an agent. is it because I have a slow connection or what?
I get a 4 hr penalty pls help not dodging just playing the game and going afk 2 rounds
please fix it, i can’t play with my friends because whenever the selection begins to others mine is still in loading and in the end it dodges and i get another penalty and it’s tiring and annoying really to wait.
