VODs are a great way to boost your Twitch channel and let fans enjoy the content that you previously streamed live.
But sometimes users may not be able to download Twitch VODs. Perhaps the most common issue is the video download stuck on preparing problem.
Troubleshooting Twitch Video Download Stuck on Preparing
Fix 1 – Give it more time
Maybe you just had some bad luck and Twitch is slower than usual when you tried to download videos on demand. It usually takes a few minutes to start downloading.
If you’re trying to download really long videos, Twitch will need more time to prepare them for download.
Downloading a three-hour long VOD could sometimes take one hour, while downloading a 5 hour video could require two hours or even more.

Fix 2 – Use TwitchLeecher
If you’re looking for a faster way to download Twitch videos, you can download and install TwitchLeecher from GitHub.
After you copied the URL of the video you want to download, paste it in the Link to your Video field , click search and then hit the Download button. Getting those VODs should work like a charm now.
Fix 3 – Check your connection
As you all know, streaming or downloading video content requires a stable Internet connection and access to a pretty large bandwidth.
To make sure your connection is working properly, do the following:
- Restart your modem — this will remove all the temporary files that may be slowing down your connection.
- Install the latest router firmware updates — in this manner, you’ll enjoy the latest improvements and fixes.
- Use a cable connection, if possible, for a more stable and faster connection. Wi-Fi connections are known to be more prone to stability and speed download problems.
- Disconnect other devices using the connection — and the device you’re using to download Twitch VODs will have the bandwidth all for itself.
We hope something helps.
