Do This If You Can’t Upload Twitch Emotes

twitch emote upload issues

Emotes are very popular among Twitch users. That’s why they get really annoyed when Twitch emotes won’t upload with the following error message: Something went wrong and your request could not be processed at this time. Please try again later.

Before you get really angry, you may want to apply the solutions listed in this guide to fix the problem.

How To Fix Twitch Emote Upload Errors

Quick fixes:

  • Log out of Twitch and then log back in
  • Refresh the page
  • Try again, keep on hitting that upload button several times in a row (maybe even tens of times).

Fix 1 – Clear your browser cache and cookies

This is to make sure there are no temporary files or cookies that might interfere with your emotes. You have detailed instructions on how to do this for four of the most popular browsers:

How to clear cache and cookies on Firefox
How to clear cache and cookies on Opera
How to clear cache and cookies on Edge

Refresh the page and test if you can now upload the emotes.

Fix 2 – Try on a different browser

Another workaround is to try uploading your Twitch emotes using a different browser or another device. Your current browser might not support all the Twitch features you’re using and switching to another one could solve this problem. Try several browsers to see which one works.

Fix 3 – Edit the images

We suggest exporting the images on Gimp, using a dedicated browser resizer to test, and then further editing the images in Clip Studio Paint. Make sure your emotes meet the image size and formatting requirements. Don’t forget to upload all three sizes at the same time.

For more information on the emote guidelines, you can check out the Twitch Guide listed in our References section at the end of the article.

Fix 4 – Change the emote names

Another surprising solution that worked for some users consisted in changing the name of the emote file. Do that and then try to upload your emotes again.

Keep in mind that spaces are not allowed as an Emote, keep it all to one word.

Fix 5 –  Check your plugins

If you don’t have the right emotes plugins, Twitch won’t upload or show emotes. So ensure you installed the necessary plugins on your computer: the FrankerFacez and the BettertTV plugins should be running on your device.
