The amazing PS5 console supports a state-of-the-art rendering technology called Ray Tracing that create realistic lightning effects in games. Simply put, light rays bounce off surfaces in real-time creating an immersive gaming experience. This produces better graphics that render shadows and reflections more accurately.
So far, so good. The only problem is that Ray Tracing doesn’t always work on PS5.
Fix Racy Tracing not working on PS5 games
Re-enable Ray Tracing on PS5
If your console failed to apply Ray Tracing, maybe it needs a little push. Go to Settings, disable Ray Tracing , and then restart your console. Turn on Ray Tracing again and check if the issue is gone. Try setting up your game settings to Fidelity and check if you notice any differences.
If disabling and re-enabling Ray Tracing does nothing, go to the next step.
Check if your game supports Ray Tracing
Keep in mind that not all the PS5 games out there support Ray Tracing. Make sure the game you’re playing supports these graphics enhancements.
The following PS5 games support Ray Tracing (at the time of writing):
- Astro’s Playroom
- Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War
- Control Ultimate Edition
- Deathloop
- Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition
- Dirt 5
- Fortnite
- Gran Turismo 7
- Maneater
- Metro Exodus
- NBA 2K21
- Observer: System Redux
- Pragmata
- Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart
- Resident Evil Village
- Ride 4
- Quantum Error
- Spider-Man: Miles Morales
- Spider-Man Remastered
- Watch Dogs: Legion
Of course, this list will get longer as more developers update their games to add Ray Tracing support.
Update your PS5 software
If certain PS5 software update files failed to install properly, that could explain why features such as Ray Tracing won’t work. Check for updates, install the latest PS5 software version and check if updating your console solved the problem.
Navigate to Settings → System → System Software → System Software Update and Settings → Check for updates.
