PS4 won’t connect to Internet: Fix it now

fix internet connection ps4

What’s worse than a snail-like Internet connection? Well, a non-existing one. PS4 Internet connection issues are a nightmare for gamers.

There can be multiple root-causes for this problem: you’re using an old modem/router, you’re too far away from the main Internet distribution frame, you’re running outdated software versions, and so on.

Fortunately, there are a few ways to fix your Internet connection on PS4 and I’ll list them in this guide.

Troubleshoot Internet connection issues on PS4

The first thing to do when experiencing Internet connection issues is to power cycle your devices. In other words, go ahead and restart your modem/router, as well as your console. If the problem persists, hopefully one of the workarounds listed below will help you fix it.

Fix 1 – Use a wired connection

WiFi networks are known to cause more issues than cable connections. So, one possible solution is to actually switch to a different connection type. Use the connection that works best for you.

Fix 2 – Get a pair of powerline adapters

If you hate using cables, you can also use powerline Ethernet adapters to connect your console to the Internet. Basically, you need to plug these adapters in the electricity outlets of your home, and they’ll use the internal electrical wiring to connect your console to the Internet.

Use an Ethernet cable to plug your router into the first adapter and then plug your console into the second adapter.

Fix 3 – Select the best WiFi channel manually

Now, if you don’t want to use an Ethernet cable or powerline adapters, try connecting your PS4 to another WiFi channel. Test all the channels available to check which one offers the best possible connection.

Fix 4 – Limit the number of connected devices

Kep in mind that your WiFi connection is shared among all the devices connected to it. Too many devices using the connection at the same time might leave no bandwidth for your console.

So, disconnect all the other devices connected to your WiFi network. In this manner, your console will be the only device using the connection.

Fix 5 – Change DNS settings

PS4 set DNS

Many PS4 owners confirmed that using the standard 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 DNS settings improved their WiFi connection. So, if nothing worked so far, manually change your DNS settings and check if this solved the problem.

Fix 6 – Use a proxy server

Before contacting PlayStation support and your ISP, there’s one last workaround that you can try. It involves using a proxy server and a computer.

So, install a proxy server software on your computer and write down its IP and port number. Go to your PS4 console and create a new Internet connection using the easy setup option.

When the proxy option appears on the screen, use the IP and port number available on your proxy server software and you should now be able to connect your console to the Internet.
