If your computer says you don’t have enough permissions to install Fortnite, you need to run the installation file and the Epic Games Launcher as an administrator. Additionally, update the launcher, disable background programs and enable Read/Write access to the Fortnite folder.
Here’s a quick breakdown of the steps to follow.
Do this if you can’t install Fortnite
Run Fortnite as an administrator
Make sure to run the Epic Games Launcher with admin privileges.
The first step is to log in to your computer using an administrator account.
Then, right-click on your Epic Games Launcher shortcut and select Run as administrator.
Enabling admin rights allows you to install games to protected folders, and run games with admin privileges.
When installing the game for the first time, go to the install location, right-click on the Fortnite install file, and select Run as administrator.
Check if the issue persists after confirming you’re an administrator. If this is the case, jump to the next solution.
Update the Epic Games Launcher
If you’re running an outdated Epic Games Launcher version, you may encounter various glitches when installing new games on your device.
Go to Settings, and click on the Update and Restart option to update your launcher to the latest version. Try to install Fortnite again.
Close background programs
Apps and programs running in the background can interfere with Fortnite and the Epic Games Launcher. As a result, your game launcher fails to install Fortnite.
The quickest way to solve this problem is to disable all the background apps and programs.
To do that, launch the Device Manager, click on the Process tab and identify all the active programs that are not essential for running Fortnite. Right-click on each program and force-stop them.
Enable Read/Write access
Make sure to enable Read/Write access to the Fortnite folder.
- Go to your install location
- Right-click on the game and select Properties
- Click on the Security tab
- Select your username
- Go to the Permissions section
- Ensure both Read and Write checkboxes are ticked
If you still can’t install Fortnite, temporarily disable your antivirus. In rare cases, your antivirus may prevent you from installing new game files on your computer.
Don’t forget to turn your antivirus back on after downloading and installing Fortnite.
