Your Nintendo Switch console may sometimes fail to download a new game or launch a title you already installed due to corrupted data issues. Let’s explore what’s causing this problem and how to fix it.
Why does data become corrupted on Nintendo Switch?
If an unexpected glitch occurs while your Switch console is saving your game progress, data will become corrupted. For example, if your console runs out of battery while saving your game, the latest save file may become corrupted.
If your save files exceed the storage capacity of your microSD card, you’ll get an error about the data being corrupt.
Additionally, if important game files are missing or can’t be accessed, a corrupted data error will pop up on the screen.
How to fix corrupted data on Nintendo Switch
To fix corrupted data on Nintendo Switch, go to Data Management and select Check for Corrupt Data. Then, download the problematic game again. Install the latest system and game updates. If you’re using a microSD card, remove it and download the game to your system memory.
Check for Corrupt Data
- Go to System Settings
- Scroll down to Data Management
- Select Software
- Select the game that triggered the corrupted data error
- Scroll down to Check for Corrupt Data
- Select this option and launch the troubleshooter
Wait until your console checks your game files. Launch the problematic game again, and check if you’re still getting the same error.
Reinstall the game
Select the Redownload option that appears on the screen after scanning your game files. Restart your console, launch the problematic game again, and check if the error is still there.
Install the latest system and game updates
To update your Nintendo Switch console to the latest version, go to System Settings, select System, and then System Update. Wait until the device downloads and installs the latest updates.
To update your game to the latest version, go to your Home menu and select the game you want to update. Hit the + Button, and select Software Update Via the Internet.
Download the game to your console’s memory
If you’re using a microSD card with your console, format and replace the card. If the error persists, remove the microSD card and download the game to the system memory.
Some counterfeit microSD cards have spoofed capacity. In reality, they have a much lower capacity than indicated. When they reach their actual capacity, all sorts of glitches and errors start occurring.
For example, when your game files exceed the actual size of the card, you’ll get an error about the data being corrupt.
Always buy your microSD cards from a reputable brand and a reputable retailer.
