Fix FIFA Not Downloading or Installing

fix FIFA 21 not downloading installing

In this guide, you’ll find some useful solutions to fix FIFA download and install issues on PC, Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch.

We all know what the month of October brings to FIFA fans. Yes, there’s a new FIFA game out there.

If you want to get your hands on the new FIFA game, you need to first download it and install it on your device. The game is available on PC, Xbox, PlayStation console, and Nintendo Switch.

But if you’re looking for a solution to fix FIFA installation progress stuck issues, this guide is the answer to your prayers.

Fix FIFA Won’t Download or Install

🔴 Note: Have a little patience.

If you’re trying to download FIFA hours or even days after the official release, don’t be surprised if you’re experiencing download problems.

There’s a huge influx of players coming to FIFA’s servers shortly after launch. The servers are always overwhelmed and they may not respond to your download request in a timely manner.

As a workaround, wait a few minutes and try again.

Fix 1 – Check your connection

FIFA takes up 50 GB on PC and console, and 13.5 GB on Nintendo Switch. As you can see, you’ve got some really nice hefty files to download.

Make sure your Internet connection is stable and try to free up some bandwidth before you start downloading the game.

Here’s what you need to do to prepare your Internet connection for downloading FIFA.

Restart/unplug your modem

While you’re online, all sorts of temporary files are stored on your modem. If you don’t regularly unplug your device, these files may clog up your connection.

Get the latest firmware version on your router

Your network devices (modem/router) may have trouble establishing a stable and fast Internet connection if you’re running outdated firmware versions.

Switch to a cable connection

If you’re on a wireless connection, temporarily switch to a cable connection while you’re downloading and installing FIFA.

Cable connections are faster and more stable than wireless connections. After you installed the game, you can go back to WiFi if you like.

Disconnect other devices

Freeing up as much bandwidth as possible by disconnecting other devices using the connection is a good idea. Bandwidth usage will significantly increase while you’re downloading FIFA.

Fix 2 – Disable your VPN

If you’re using a VPN tool, we strongly recommend you disable it. VPNs are great for privacy, but many come with a downside: they may slow down your connection.

And that’s the last thing you want to happen when you’re downloading FIFA.

Fix 3 – Close all background apps, programs, and processes

Whether you’re trying to download and install the game on PC, Xbox, PS4, or Nintendo Switch, close all the apps, games, and programs running in the background before your launch the download.

Some processes might interfere with your game, blocking the download or slowing it down.

But you can avoid that by closing background programs and games so that your PC, Xbox, PS4, or Switch console can focus solely on FIFA.

Fix 4 – Clear the cache

If FIFA won’t download or gets stuck on a certain percentage or on Waiting for download, clearing the cache should solve the problem.

To clear the cache on PC:

  1. Go to %ProgramData%/Origin and delete all the files and folders except for LocalContent
  2. Go to %AppData%, open the Local folder, and delete the Origin folder.
  3. Restart your computer and launch the FIFA download process.

To clear the cache on Xbox or PS4:

  1. Hold the power button until the console shuts down
  2. Then, unplug the power cable
  3. Leave your console unplugged for one minute
  4. Reconnect the power cable and boot your console up.

To clear the cache on Nintendo Switch:

  1. Go to System Settings, select System, then Initialize
  2.  Select the user you want to clear the cache for, and follow the on-screen steps.

Fix 4 – Free up some space

If you’re running low on storage space, try freeing up some space. After all, FIFA needs 50 GB on PC and console, and 13.5 GB on the Switch.

Delete all the games you haven’t played in a long long time. Uninstall all those apps and programs that you don’t use.

Make sure to do that before you download the game.

Fix 5 – Uninstall EA Play Hub

Some users said that uninstalling the EA Play Hub helped them to fix their FIFA download issues.

  1. Uninstall EA Play Hub from your PC or Xbox/PS4 console
  2. Uninstall FIFA
  3. Restart your PC or console
  4. Reinstall the EA Play Hub from the Microsoft Store or PlayStation Store
  5. Click on FIFA — it should say Ready to start.

If the FIFA install file won’t work after re-installing the EA Play Hub app, cancel all installs and try again.

Other players suggested the following workaround could do the trick as well:

  • Reinstalling the EA Desktop app
  • Then link your EA account to your Xbox account
  • Run the Installer from the Game Pass.

We hope something helps. If you found other ways to fix this problem, share your ideas in the comments below.
