How to Fix Error NW-31453-6

Fix 1 – Restart your console

Yes, this simple solution may save the day. So, go ahead and restart your PS4 console to see if this workaround fixes the problem.

Keep in mind that your network equipment should not be kept plugged in for days or weeks on end as this may trigger connection issues.

Fix 2 – Use port forwarding

Port forwarding allows you to redirect communication requests from one address and port number to another.

On PS4, you can either put your console into a De-Militarised Zone (aka DMZ) or open ports on your router. In this manner, your router won’t block any traffic to your console, allowing you to quickly connect to the almighty Internet.

Here’s how to put PS4 on DMZ:

  1. Go to Settings > Network Settings. Now, you need to give your console a static IP address, but first write down your IP address and default router.
  2. Go to Internet Connection Settings -> select Custom
  3. Select your connection type (wired or wireless)
  4. On a wireless connection, set up your connection normally until you reach the IP Address menu.
  5. On a wired connection, select Auto-Detect and then go to the IP Address menu.
  6. Once at the IP Address menu, select Manual
  7. A new window will appear with the following options: IP Address, Subnet Mask, Default Router, Primary DNS and Secondary DNS.
  8. Under the IP Address section, type the IP address that you wrote down at step 1. Now, change the last 3 digits and replace them with 150, 200 or 250.
  9. Under Default Router, add the numbers that you wrote down at step 1.
  10. Under Primary DNS, add the numbers that you added under Default Router.
  11. Press right on the D-Pad to advance.
  12. Locate MTU and select Automatic
  13. Don’t enable proxy server
  14. Enable UPnP
  15. Validate all the settings and check your Internet connection.
  16. Log on to your router as an admin -> locate the option that allows you to assign a DMZ.
    • Every router has a different configuration. The best solution is to go to your router manufacturer’s website and search for more information on how to allow DMZ.
  17. Now, add an IP address for your DMZ. Insert the same IP address that you selected at step 8. Save your new settings.
  18. Go to Network Settings -> navigate to Internet Connection Test -> check if your Internet connection is fully functional.

How to open ports on your router

For more information on how to open ports depending on your router model, go to the PortForward website, select your router model, and follow the instructions there.

Fix 3 -Enable IP routing(PPP) and then switch back to IP routing(IP)

Some users confirmed that changing IP routing(IP) to IP routing(PPP) fixed the problem. This option is usually available under Internet -> Internet connection -> Internet connection type.

For more information on how to do that, check out your router manufacturer’s website.

As you can see, fixing this error requires a bit of patience. But if you follow the steps listed above to the letter, you should be able to solve the problem in a few minutes.
