How to Fix Error CE-30784-2 on PlayStation Consoles

1. Check your USB device

If this error code occurs when you try to install the latest console updates using a USB flash drive, make sure that the USB device supports USB 2.0 or 3.0 and it’s properly inserted into the console.  Error CE-30784-2 often appears because the console expects you to insert a USB drive, but fails to detect it.

If there are multiple partitions on the device, delete them and then test if the error persists. If this is the case, try reformatting the device using a PC.

Also, make sure your USB is FAT32 formatted.

2. Download the installation file again

If the error persists, try deleting the update file altogether and then download the larger install file form Sony’s official website.

Here are the steps to follow:

  1. Delete the update file
  2. Create a PS4 folder on your USB flash drive (make sure it has at least 955 MB of free space)
  3. Inside the PS4 folder, go ahead and create a new one called ‘UPDATE’
  4. Download the larger installation file from the update page and save it in the UPDATE folder
  5. Save the new update file with the file name PS4UPDATE.PUP
  6. Wait until the download process completes and then turn off your console
  7. Connect your USB flash drive to your PS4 and turn off the console by pressing the power button for a few seconds
  8. When the PS4 system starts in safe mode, simply select Initialize PS4 to reinstall system software
  9. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the latest PS4 updates.
