Death Stranding Update Not Downloading

Death Stranding not downloading Update

This guide covers the issue where Death Stranding is not downloading the latest game updates. Whether you’re getting an error code or the update download process gets stuck, this guide is for you.

Issue Description

  • The game kicks out players because they need to get the latest updates in order to use the online features
  • An error message appears on the screen saying Death Stranding cannot download the update
  • The update will not complete despite having a stable and fast Internet connection
  • Some players may get the An error occurred on the server alert.

Why Can’t I Update Death Stranding?

The game may fail to download and install the latest updates due to unstable or limited Internet connection issues. Running outdated PS4 console firmware versions may also trigger this problem.

Not being able to download the newest game updates is a really annoying issue but you can troubleshoot it.

Death Stranding Can’t Download Update

First, restart the game, the console and the router. When the two devices are back up and running, launch the game and try to download the update again. If the problem persists, here are a few solutions that you can use.

Fix 1 – Return to the Download Menu

Return to your PS4 Home screen and go to the Downloads menu. Once you’re there, the console should start downloading the update again. Many users confirmed that leaving the download screen and going back to the downloads menu worked for them.

You might be tempted to retry the download but this would result in errors appearing again.

Fix 2 – Check your storage space

Make sure you’ve got enough storage space for the update to download. Keeping under 25 GB of free space on your PS4 is not a good idea. Most game updates nowadays are at least 1GB.

If you’re running low on storage space, uninstall some of the games you haven’t played in years, delete old gameplay videos and remove unnecessary files. Always make sure you have cleared double the space required for the update.

Fix 3 – Check your Internet connection

Make sure your Internet connection is stable. Switch off the Internet connection on other devices in order to free up the bandwidth.

If you’re on a wireless connection, switch to a cable connection and check if you can now download the update. Get the latest firmware version on your router.

We hope something helped.
