If you’re still playing Cyberpunk 2077, and you haven’t request a refund yet, you may get all sorts of errors. In this guide, we’ll focus on the following specific error: Saved data is damaged and cannot be loaded.
This error usually pops up after gamers save their game and try to reload it later. When they hit Play or Continue, this annoying alert appears on the screen.
Fix Cyberpunk: Saved data is damaged and cannot be loaded
Update Cyberpunk
One of the early triggers of this error was the save file size. If the file was larger than 8MB in size, it got corrupted. Fortunately, CD Projekt Red pushed a hotfix specifically for this issue.
So, if you haven’t installed the latest hotfixes, please do so now. The devs promised they fixed this save file error.
Use an older save file
The bad news is that the corrupted save file will forever remain that way. Even if you update the game, there is no way you can recover the save file if it got damaged and corrupted. So, the only solution is to use an older file to continue playing Cyberpunk and avoid losing too much of your progress.
For example, GOG suggests you should try to keep a lower amount of gear items and crafting materials. In this manner, the save file won’t get too big.
However, many gamers don’t quite agree with this approach. And rightfully so. After all, Cyberpunk has crafting specs, hasn’t it? But somehow it seems that the game was not actually planned or designed to be played by crafters.
The Workaround
Cyberpunk seems to be a bit too fragile at the moment. To avoid any further save issues, try to play the game until the end, then start a new game. If you keep on saving and reloading the same character too many times, the save file could get corrupted again. Also, no matter how fun and challenging this is, please refrain from crafting thousands of items at once.
By the way, if Cyberpunk says it can’t save right now, you have some handy solutions in this guide.
